The ACLU, or American Civil Liberties Union, is an organization rooted in fighting for human rights and civil liberties in the United States by working through litigation, lobbying and community empowerment. All of that (especially the community empowerment aspect) is what we're about here at LACAUSA. Beginning February 1 and spanning over the next 3 months, we will be donating 10% of online sales to the ACLU.
Founded in 1920 by a group of lawyers, feminists, and activists, the ACLU focused first on freedom of speech; particularly that of anti-war, artists rights, and the rights of striking workers. Throughout the 20s and 30s they partnered with the NAACP, fought for Native American rights, spoke out against police brutality, and much, much more. The organization has expanded today to 1,000,000 members, around 2,000 volunteer lawyers, and has a long list of accomplishments.
